Wine & Love v.6

29 Mar

Hosted by Nora

You might have noticed  I haven’t written anything this week. Or maybe you didn’t notice. That’s probably better. I haven’t had much to say, but I find that’s mostly the case when I’m overwhelmed by thoughts. And Wine & Love helps sort through those. So here we go …

… Wines …

  • I decided to make my vegetarianism official, but wanted to keep sushi in my diet. However, after a solid 3 weeks of absolutely no animal proteins, apparently my body’s made a different decision. I tried eating sushi twice in the last two weeks and each time immediately threw up. Looks like that won’t be a part of my diet any time soon. Rats.
  • I’ve been so cranky lately. In this annoying, terribly funk where everything and everyone irritates me. I can’t seem to snap out of it.
  • This week was the one-year anniversary of a close friend’s father’s sudden death. I never knew him, but the friend means a lot to me, so yesterday was a rough day emotionally.

… Loves …

  • Boy-roommate is out of town this weekend, which means I have the place to myself. Hopefully a couple days of cleaning, laundry, organization, and general relaxing will help catapult me out of my cranky funk mood.
  • I’ve recently made a (totally huge) decision that I can’t make totally public yet. However, it involves pretty much turning my entire life on its head and – for once – the thought of that thrills me, rather than terrifies me. To me, that’s the sign that I’m ready for this.
  • Change the Record” by Melanie Fiona featuring B.o.B. I’ve had this song on repeat for the last two days. It’s the best.

That’s all, folks. Now tell me about your week – and don’t forget to link up with Nora!

This is the longest I’ve ever stuck with any blog theme, so yay for that! Everyone should be doing this, really, so go over and link up with Nora and don’t forget to tell me what you’re loving and w(h)ining about this week!

… Wines …

  • One of my very best friends lost a dear family member this week and I can’t be there to give her hugs. She’s been there for me through pretty much every big family event in the last 12 years; this is the first one of hers I’ll miss. It breaks my heart.
  • I seem to be stuck in this cycle where, when I drink, which is maybe once a week, the drinking extends into hours on end. Then, predictably, I feel like shit the next day – even if I’m just exhausted. Balance really needs to regain its spot as a top priority in my life.
  • Week two where I want to throw all my things away. I wonder how long I should feel like this before I actually do something about it!

… Loves …

  • Love, love, loving all the songs by First Aid Kit. Listening to their country-folk songs inspired me to start listening to Paul Simon’s Graceland album, which is another of my all-time favorites.
  • Spring is here – almost! It’s been super warm and sunny this week in NYC and since we gained that extra hour, I’ve been able to walk home from work! What a treat!
  • I met a boy who actually called me and who actually wants to take me on a date. It’s been a terribly long time since I’ve had this happen without the insecurity of ulterior motives haunting me.
  • Being a vegetarian this month has had some ups and downs, but I finally discovered some meatless recipes I am in love with! I’ll have to share them soon!
  • I’m getting a haircut this weekend! My hair is very fine, so it only grows so long, and it’s at that length now. (Which is to say it’s creeping down toward my elbows. It’s long.) I’m excited to chop off several inches for a new, spring-y hairstyle!

I missed last week’s Wine & Love post and actually considered skipping this week, too. Life has been infringing on my writing time! I decided, though, that it’s far more important to me to make this a real priority. Perspective is integral to maintaing my own sanity, so without further ado …

… Wines …

  • I’m feeling restless again. My new job and new apartment sated me for a while, but apparently not long enough. I’m trying to figure out what I need to change (my location? my mindset?) to still my itching-to-go legs.
  • This week has been insanely busy. Between work and hectic social plans, I’ve had almost no time for myself and I think my body’s angry at my neglect.
  • I’m at a point where I feel very torn between the sentimental value of all my things and the undeniable impulse to get rid of all of it. This is both new and frustrating and I’m not sure where to go from here.

… Loves …

  • I’ve been having weekly Skype dates with Katie! It (almost) feels like we’re hanging out for real.
  • I successfully surprised Adam for his 25th birthday. He was so shocked and excited and we had so much fun celebrating! (Aside from the part where he blacked out and almost broke his foot. That’s probably in his “Wine” column this week.)
  • Despite the chaos, I’m so happy to have gotten to connect with some of my favorite people. Friends from college, old jobs, and my stepsister all made it onto my social calendar this week!
  • Being a vegetarian for March – so far, so good! Maybe I’ll dub this Meatless March. (Why did I just think of that?)
  • The Hunger Games (!) and the Kindle app for my iphone (!). Enough said.

As usual, go link up with Nora and let us both know what you’re loving and w(h)ining about this week!

Wine & Love v.2

Fair warning: I have a lot of feelings this week. After writing this out, though, there are still more Loves than Wines. Which counts as another Love for me.

… Wines …

  • Not having enough hours in the day to do everything I want – or feel I need – to get done. I’m learning more and more than I have the type of personality where I need to do everything really well and do it really well right away. Oh, hi, Type A Perfectionist, you’re stressing me out.
  • On the same note, I’m frustrated that I’m not just magically perfect and seamlessly adjusted to my new job. I know I’m doing well and catching on quickly, but new things are hard! I just want to be good at everything NOW.
  • The mousetrap in my bedroom worked. Dead mouse = unhappy Sara. (There was blood.)
  • I haven’t seen Twin in two whole weeks. After working together for the last fours years, going on vacations together, and also hanging out every weekend, that feels like a lifetime. I miss her.

… Loves …

  • The mousetrap in my bedroom worked. Dead mouse = happy Sara. (There’s no more mouse.)
  • I’m coming to the realizing that while my list of best-friends-ever-in-the-whole-world is shrinking a little bit, the people making the cut are irreplaceable.
  • I took a boxing class this week (a legit one – boxing gloves, ring, punching bag, the works) and loved it! Also, I’m so sore but in the way that I’m just constantly reminded that I pushed my muscles to do something outside of their comfort zone.
  • Speaking of comfort zones, I asked a boy out on a date and he said yes. Details to come, but boy is that exhilarating!
  • I got my first paycheck! And my tax return! And! My security deposit from my old apartment! My riches are not permanent, but after two months of stressing about rent and bills, it feels nice to have the freedom to make a budget again! Yay income!
  • My brother is coming to visit this weekend! I’m so thrilled – we are totally sticking to our pact to see each other every month this year. (Seriously – we’re already for March – his birthday, April – family vacation, and May – BiSC!)

Wine & Love v.1

9 Feb

Hosted by Nora

This is my first Wine & Love post, but I’m going to aim to do it every week. I love the idea of taking time to reflect on what’s going my way and what’s not – it’s such a great way to gain perspective. You can probably tell I’ve been super into balance lately, so if you want to link up with Nora and do your own Wine & Love you can!

… Wines …

  • Girl drama…Boy-roommate’s semi-girlfriend doesn’t like me. Normally I wouldn’t care – I know I’ll be around longer than she will – but she’s over quite a bit and she’s begun to make her feelings more obvious. Last night I buzzed her in and she didn’t even say hi to me when she walked in the door!
  • Winter…This is kind of trivial, but it’s bothering me: dry skin! My hands are normally baby soft (seriously, everyone comments on them!) but this winter is so dry. To make it worse, the radiator is in my room. I have a humidifier, but I’m not sure of its effectiveness for the size of my room. What are some ways you keep your skin soft in the winter? Do you use those lotion-gloves? Do they work? I’m open to suggestions.
  • This weather…It has been SO inconsistent this year. I don’t love extreme temperatures in any direction, but I’d always prefer warmer. This week has ranged from 65 degrees down to 28 and snowing – all within four days. I realize this has larger implications for the planet than just my personal satisfaction, but for right now I’d really like there to be some consistency!

… Loves …

  • My new job! I’m almost done with week 2 and it’s going so well. I’m challenged, but in a way that I feel like I’m building on my experience. Everything I’m doing is reinforcing my knowledge and understanding of the industry. And I get to make pretty powerpoints!
  • The cleanse! Today is day 3 – the last day – and I feel fantastic. I can’t wait to dedicate an entire post to how it has gone (you knew that would happen, come on). I took a spinning class last night and did yoga this morning and I’m just in such a happy place right now!
  • My clean, organized bedroom! Since I’m not eating real food – and therefore not cooking ordering in/waiting for delivery – I have had so much time (and energy!) to keep my room clean and my clothes put away. I love going to bed and waking up in a room that’s so uncluttered.
  • Future plans! I have so many plans for the next few weeks – including skyping with Amazonian tea farmers in Spanish (no, I don’t speak Spanish – it’ll be interesting), my first boxing class, applying to be a Stratejoy Season 6 blogger, tons of babysitting (extra money!), skiing, and more!
